I traveled in the back seat with my 5 year old brother. The trip took 2 days from central Indiana. Few had air-conditioned cars including us. The four of us stayed at the Side-O-Sea cottages on Fort Myers Beach. Again, no air-conditioning but we didn't care.

We went fishing out of the Punta Rassa Fish Camp. Directly across from the fish camp was Sanibel Island. The island was serviced by two ferry boats, the Rebel, and the Yankee Clipper. Other than the fish camp there was really nothing around Punta Rassa. You felt like you were along way out in the country.

My dad rented one of the camps wood boats and to use with his 10 horse Evinrude. My dad tells me today that he knew little of nothing about salt water fishing then but we did catch out share of fish on live shrimp. Mostly we caught speckled trout; my mom did catch a small hammerhead shark. My brother and I had just as much fun eating Cuban sandwiches and drinking soda pop as we did fishing.

I can remember returning to the fish camp in the evening and getting attacked by the mosquitoes. We would load up the car and get moving to get away from the bugs. We fished hard for a whole week. I do not remember a bad fishing day in the 50's. We never did go ashore on Sanibel Island as there was no reason to do so. The island at that time had no commercial establishments that we knew about. The island then, like today is known for shelling.

The fish camp had pelican that was pretty much a pet. Stanley the pelican was fed well by the returning fisherman and the folks at the dock. Stanley had no fear of people.

I now live in Delray Beach, Florida. I stayed on Sanibel in 1999 and it has all changed. The island is now has a bridge and is open to the public. Although I enjoyed my stay the area is too crowded and too congested. On the site of the fish camp sit several condominiums. The fishing is nowhere near as good as it was in the 1950 and early ‘60s. Such is progress.
Tip! If a boat is used to catch crabs, you should use and drop cone nets with the bait tied to the bottom center of the drop net. This technique can also be used if fishing from a bridge.

Dr. Mike Copper retired from the U.S. Army in 1994. If you do, then you have to go on a deep blue fishing activity to catch different types of fish, and at the same time, explore the beauty underwater. But, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned fisherman, you need to have the right deep sea fishing boat for your deep sea fishing expedition.

Deep sea fishing boats are widely available both in local stores and online marketplaces nowadays. Because of this, finding the right one for your deep sea fishing activity could be a daunting task. However, if you keep some important details in mind before purchasing one, you can be confident that you will get the deep sea fishing boat that will sure meet your fishing requirements.

Important details to consider

When you purchase a deep sea fishing boat, you have to carefully consider its purpose first. Since it will be used for deep sea fishing, your boat should be specifically designed for that purpose. You have to look at the quality of the boat and you have to see to it that it is certified by the right agency. The certification will be a guarantee that the deep sea fishing boat has passed the standard of excellence of that agency.

Aside from this, you also have to consider your budget. Fishing boats are huge investments so you have to make sure that your budget allows you to buy one. There are types of fishing boats that may be less expensive than the others. However, it is not a good idea to simply grab the lower-priced model since that type of boat may not be manufactured for deep see fishing purposes.

These are some of the important details that you have to consider when choosing the deep sea fishing boat that you need. Whether you pursue deep sea fishing for recreation or for any other purpose, it will be best if you use the right deep sea fishing boat that will ensure your safety.

Fishing Boats provides detailed information on Fishing Boats, Aluminum Fishing Boats, Deep Sea Fishing Boats, Used Fishing Boats and more. That's your number one priority - to make contacts and turn them into customers.

You've gotta land that fish.

Now that you have set the hook with subscription confirmation and delivered the bait you promised on your lead capture page ...

How do you get him in without snapping the line?

Well, you have to get your emails read - or all the previous effort is wasted.

Consider the subject of each email as a headline. If it's not interesting enough to be opened you will probably lose your fish.

Keep your (head)line tight. Short and sweet, and usually presenting a benefit - a darn good reason to open the email.

If you don't keep the line tight he will throw the hook - and throw your email in the trash. Some fish fight harder than others. Many potential customers are quite defensive. Why should they trust you? They don't even know you. To earn their trust, and to have the best chance of landing your fish, use high quality line - VALUE.

Give of yourself. Give of your time. Give something of value to earn the respect and trust of your subscriber - and don't allow any slack in your line.

You offered the right bait. You set the hook with confirmation. You keep your (head)line tight so they don't throw the hook (in the trash). You use strong line by providing valuable information.

...and you keep reeling up the slack.

You use your email to guide your customer to the sales page - and ultimately to the sale.

You can't force it or something will break - the line (reads but no clicks), the hook (thrown in the trash) - something will go wrong and you will go hungry.
Tip! This might be the first time that the family is going to the lake. It will be a good idea to ask if there is a guide that will be able to direct the people to the best fishing site.

Guide, offer, help, inform, entice...

Closer and closer he gets until you finally grab the net. ...and the net profit.

Above all, treat your lead with respect. There is a person behind that email address.

Do you prefer a mailbox full of ads? ... or useful information and related links?

Do you prefer an honest review? ... or a hard sales pitch?

When you DO offer a product, service or opportunity ... offer something of value - not junk for easy money. Your reputation won't stand up to it.

Treat your lead, your subscriber, your new friend like a person. Give them a good reason to do business with YOU.
Tip! Nomad Fly Fishing Journals – A little self-promotion here. Nomad Fly Fishing Journals are compact writing journals that let anglers keep notes on their efforts.

... and stop treating them like fish.

Ok, so maybe fishing and lead capture don't have THAT much in common after all.

Sorry. My bad.

Russ Moore - writer/publisher/techie: is the pen behind 'My EZ eBiz' - a report about what may be the fastest, easiest way for you to build a solid monthly income online in your spare time. Now let's break that down and get into a little more detail.

Bait & Presentation

Traffic isn't all that easy to get. You will have to either pay for, or work hard for traffic to your website. You don't want to waste it, do you? Of course not.

When a visitor hits your page, you don't want him to just look around and swim away, right? No. You want him to buy. However, that doesn't happen often enough on just one visit. So, you need a way to stay in touch with your visitor so you can pull them back from time to time. Getting him to opt in to your mailing list is a great way to keep in touch.

But how do you get someone to give up their contact information to you when they don't yet know and trust you?

Well, while your visitor is at your site... while the fish is in your pond - offer the right bait.

What type of fish are you after? ...and what do they eat?

You know your niche better than I do.

What are YOUR visitors interested in? What are their biggest problems? What keeps them awake at night? What do the want the most?

Find the right bait, then present it in the right way and I guarantee they will bite.

Through a joint venture, a little search time, or some desktop publishing, locate or create a product that your visitors will bite on.

...and setup a lead capture page using this product as your bait.

Fishermen know what bait to use for different fish because of experience, their own or someone else's shared wisdom.

Take a look around. Someone else may be selling in your market. Who am I kidding? Someone else IS selling in your market. Find them. How are they fishing for new leads?
Tip! This might be the first time that the family is going to the lake. It will be a good idea to ask if there is a guide that will be able to direct the people to the best fishing site.

A little research will reveal what the fish are biting on at any given moment. Find or create something similar, then bait YOUR hook and start fishing.

Good baits - Nearly anything related & free.

Viral software, articles and ebooks Prizes (contests) Product samples Valuable tips etc...

The right bait STILL must be presented in the right way. Portal sites, link & banner farms - they have their place, but the best way to present you bait when fishing for leads is with a simple lead capture page.

You've seen them many times already, I'm sure of it. A basic page with few graphics, some well written copy, bullet points and a subscription form - and that's about all it takes. You may have to experiment a bit with your presentation, but once they start biting you know you're on the right track. At this point, make only minor changes (one at a time) and test, test, test.
Tip! Use a wire cross-locking snap when fishing crank plugs. It allows you to change lures quickly and enables the bait to vibrate more freely.

When they do start biting, you better learn to set the hook with a subscription confirmation to ensure your email gets delivered ... and delivered only to those who actually want it.

Confirmation can and probably will lead to a few "big one that got away" stories, but your list will be better - more responsive.

On your 'thank you' page, remind your visitor to confirm their subscription. Nothing fancy, just a little something like this:

"In order for me to send your (bait) please remember to confirm your request.

The confirmation email should be in your inbox very soon. This step, though a bit inconvenient, protects us both from unwanted email issues.
Tip! Check your line just above the lure frequently when fishing crankbaits around rocks, gravel, stumps, and other hard obstructions. They can quickly fray your line.

Also - please white list my domain.com and email@mydomain.com to ensure receipt of the information you requested."

Set that hook - get on your reader's list of acceptable publishers, because you want your email to get through every time you send mail. You want ALL subscribers to receive ALL email. It's not likely that it's going to happen, but it's still a great target.

It's also a good idea to test your emails to ensure they won't be eaten by filters.

You can use software for this, or one of the many autoresponder services that have spam testing features built right in.

Now we've baited, presented and set the hook - and I am worn out.

Let's rest up a bit and land that biggin' in part three. Don't miss it.

Russ Moore - writer/publisher/techie: is the pen behind 'My EZ eBiz' - a report about what may be the fastest, easiest way for you to build a solid monthly income online in your spare time. I caught more catfish that day than I had all summer.

Fishin' and lead capture. They're not so different.

Right bait... right place... BAM! You get a strike - someone drops their contact info into your autoresponder form to get some of that sweet smellin' bait you've offered them.

Then you set the hook - and verify their subscription.

To protect yourself, your business and your subscribers, always use a subscription verification to make sure they are actually interested in reading your material.

Some will confirm. Some will not. But that doesn't mean the trip is over.

You keep on fishing.

...and eventually you get another strike.

Once you get the hook set (receive confirmation of a new subscriber), it's time to reel in your fish - deliver your lead to a sales page for your product or service.

You can't just lift your rod, crank the reel like a lunatic to drag the fish to the boat. You could easily break the line and lose your new lead.

You have to use a little finesse.

Let him take some slack (give up some great, free information), and allow just a little room to run.

Ease him in - guide him and reel up the slack as you go.

Show your lead - your new friend - that you can be trusted. Don't lose ground by sending junk in an effort to make money.

Closer and closer he gets until you have EARNED his trust - and his business.

Then you hold him up by the ankles and pose for a picture. (just kidding)
Tip! Local Specialty Fly – Okay, this will take a bit of effort on your part. My Father made hunting and fishing an everyday part of my life. He was a Boeing Executive, but using the outdoors as your stress relief made him a great Dad.

Well, I grew up and had my own family of a great wife, daughter and son, and I started taking them fishing from day one. It is amazing what you can do with a kid on your back.

I took those kids everywhere with us. It did not stop me from my favorite hobbies or outdoor escapes. It only enhanced them.

It really bothers me to see parents leaving their kids at home to do their activities. Time and time again I see folks treating their kid like they were a burden. Then years later, they wonder why they are having relationship problems with their kids. Take them fishing, biking, hiking, shopping, driving, swimming or what ever you do. Put them on your back, install a special seat, dress them real warm, buy the best safety equipment and start being a family.

You will enjoy your activities so much better when you see it through your kids eyes. They will enhance the trips with their questions and playfulness. If your friends done like your kids with you, then tell them to bring their too. If that does not work, then they are poor friends.

My kids are now in their 20's, and they still love doing activities with their folks. I have devoted a outdoor web site to them and created special search sites line http://www.rangersearch.com, http://www.huntingonlinefind.com, http://www.campingonlinefind.com and http://www.fishingonlinefind.com to make finding outdoor activities easy to find for your family.

Please, stop looking at your kids as something to keep you from your favorite activities. Take them along, modify what you normally do to include kids and start being a family everyday.

Rangerrob:

Family outdoor activities. Here are a few fly fishing gift ideas.

Okay, I'll be the first one to admit publicly that buying gifts for the holidays can be a pain in derriere. When it comes right down to it, how well do you know someone and how do you know what he or she likes? Buying for kids is great because you can always peak at the letter to Santa. Unfortunately, most adults have given up writing to Santa and you really don't want to read through there other letters. Fortunately, this isn't a problem if you are buying for a fly fishing enthusiast.

Fly Fishing Gifts

Fly fishing is an extremely popular sport and a good way to become one with nature. Of course, you probably don't care about any of that. Instead, you want to know what you should buy for guy or gal in your life that loves to go fly fishing. Well, here are a few ideas.

1. Flies - You lucky dog, the top gift you can give a fly fisherman is a fly. Flies are the "bait" that go on the end of the line and are used to attract fish. Flies come in a variety of types and forms. The most basic are Nymphs and Mayflies, which mimic a type of bug that lives in rivers and is considered fine dining by bass and other fish. You can expect to pay a couple of bucks per fly, so feel free to buy more than one.

2. Local Specialty Fly - Okay, this will take a bit of effort on your part. Every fishing area has a specialty fly that is known to have fish leaping out of the water before casting even begins. Since the exact fly varies from location to location, you need to stop by a local fishing store and ask for advice. Try to pick a beat up looking shop with gentlemen of an older persuasion. They'll talk your ear off, but you'll get something unique.
Tip! This might be the first time that the family is going to the lake. It will be a good idea to ask if there is a guide that will be able to direct the people to the best fishing site.

3. Fly Station - Okay, this is going to be a more costly item. A fly station looks like a small desk and for a good reason. The fly station is where your beloved angler will sit and create his or her own flies. Part of the allure of fly fishing is tying your own flies and fly stations are built for this purpose. You can expect to pay as low as $75 and as high as anyone has the never to charge.

4. Nomad Fly Fishing Journals - A little self-promotion here. Nomad Fly Fishing Journals are compact writing journals that let anglers keep notes on their efforts. They can note the fishing conditions, which flies worked the best, who the fished with and notes on what they should do differently next time. You can click the link at the bottom of this article to see the journals and expect to pay $25 for the journal and waterproof case.
Tip! Check your line just above the lure frequently when fishing crankbaits around rocks, gravel, stumps, and other hard obstructions. They can quickly fray your line.

If you're looking for fly fishing gifts, consider yourself lucky. The equipment tends to be inexpensive and last a very long time.

Rick Chapo is with http://www.nomadjournals.com - makers of writing journals. Fly fishing journals are great fly fishing gifts for anglers and fly fishing trips and vacations. Visit http://www.nomadjournaltrips.com for more fly fishing articles and stories.

Don't Worry, Go Fishing

While most of us enjoy chasing higher returns by moving in and out of stocks, ETFs and mutual funds, a few perhaps wiser investors build a diversified portfolio and just let it run.

It is human nature to try to outperform the market by trying to pick a ten bagger or tapping into economic growth in India or Brazil. No doubt outsized returns are achievable and the dismal performance of broad indices such as the S&P 500 over the past few years has frustrated most passive investors.

While we offer investors six model ETF portfolios, one of the most popular is our "Gone Fishing" portfolio which has been part of our ETF Starter Kit and hasn't changed at all. It contains 14 ETFs that range from the iShares COMEX Gold (IAU) to an ETF tracking the S&P Global 100 (IOO).

30% of the portfolio is allocated to three fixed income ETFs such as the iShares Lehman Aggregate (AGG), 20% to broad and regional international ETFs such as the iShares MSCI Pacific Ex-Japan (EEP). 20% of the portfolio is allocated to U.S. equities balanced nicely between small cap, mid-cap and mega-cap.

How has this simple and balanced portfolio done? In 2005, it was up 11.43% versus less than 5% for the S&P 500 index and so far this year it is up 6.3% versus 2.97% for the S&P 500. The key of course is the right blend of ETFs so that the duds are likely offset by the sectors on fire.
Tip! Use a wire cross-locking snap when fishing crank plugs. It allows you to change lures quickly and enables the bait to vibrate more freely.

ETFs present investors with the best tools to build a "Gone Fishing" portfolio because they are low cost and tax efficient. The weighted annual fee for the portfolio is 0.58% and there have been no capital gains distributions for the iShares family of ETFs during the past four years.

But for those adventuresome souls who yearn for the thrill and profits of chasing higher returns with commensurate risk, ETFs are also a good tool. Country-specific ETFs often are highly concentrated due to market cap weighting and the ETF sector funds offer interesting but tricky opportunities as well. ETFs can also be shorted and for many of them options are available.
Tip! Dress for the occasion. If you're ice fishing, don't forget thermal underwear and insulated footgear.

Chartwell's Global Tactical Asset Allocation ETF service and portfolio ($1,995 a year) contains a more limited number of ETFs and closed-end funds and does not shy away from risk. Thailand (TF) and Brazil (EWZ) are two current holdings and the portfolio is up 23% this year beating the S&P 500 index by a 7 to 1 margin.

Whether you are a "Gone Fishing" investor or more aggressive and trading oriented, ETFs should be in your investment tool box and can nicely complement stock and mutual fund holdings. Make sure that you allocate most of your portfolio to a diversified conservative portfolio so that you protect your capital and will always have the time to fish all day long.

Delfeld has 20 years of global investment experience including stints in Hong Kong, Sydney and Tokyo and served on the Executive Board of the Asian Development Bank in Manila. He was also a consultant to the U.S. Treasury and the U.S. Congress on international investing and is a columnist on global investing for Forbes Asia magazine.
Tip! If you plan to go crab fishing onshore, then the best time is when the tide is rising. For onshore crab fishing, you'll need a dip net, long string and some type of bait, like eel, chicken necks, or small fish.

For more information about Chartwell's ETF investor advisory services, please go to http://chartwelladvisor.com/etf_investing.html or call Carl Delfeld direct at (719) 264-1503.

How Do You Make Your Own Fishing Bait?

There are many recipes that you can take full advantage of to help you to score the big fish. Why not make the bait at home on your own? Here are just a couple of the options that you have in fish bait recipes.

Salmon Eggs: How To Cure Them

There are several fish that this will work well for. If you are after largemouth bass, salmon, lake trout or muskellunge, you'll love to use these because they will give you good results. Here's a step by step to help you.

- When cleaning your salmon, keep the egg sacs intact.

- Cover a large flat surface that you can easily move with borax.

- Cut the egg sacs across the membrane about three to four inches and lay them at least one inch apart on the borax.

- Sprinkle more borax on top and make sure they are all covered.

- Move them to an area with good circulation that is also sheltered. You do not want them in any sunlight or in any way getting wet.

- Allow them to dry for two or three days and turn them about every twelve hours.
Tip! Use a wire cross-locking snap when fishing crank plugs. It allows you to change lures quickly and enables the bait to vibrate more freely.

- Shake off the excess borax and place them in plastic bags for storage. You can use them when they are completely dry.

Or How About Some Cheese Bait?

You can use this type of homemade bait to catch carp, chub, bream and catfish. Here's what you need to do.

- Roll out about ten ounces of pie pastry on your counter top.

- Use mature cheddar flavor cheese to smear on the pastry.

- Add six ounces of grated cheddar cheese and four ounces of blue cheese crumbles that are finely ground.

- Fold that pastry over so that it is completely covering the cheese. Then, roll it out again.

- Do this several times until the pastry and the cheese are completely combined.

- Form into a large ball and knead it.

- Place some cheddar cheese bits into the bottom of a plastic bag then place the cheese ball into it as well. Freeze it.
Tip! Local Specialty Fly – Okay, this will take a bit of effort on your part. Every fishing area has a specialty fly that is known to have fish leaping out of the water before casting even begins.

- Once thawed the consistency is perfect and it will have a good cheese smell to it. Roll it into small balls and store in an air tight container. You can then use them next time you head out.

Who said you couldn't make your own great baits for your favorite catch? This is a great way to get some of the best baits for next to nothing as well. Go ahead and give it a try. You would be surprised how well these work.

Niall is a keen fisherman always looking at new tools to help him catch more fish. I don't fish in tournaments because I don't know how to catch game fish in a consistent way. For me, entering fishing tournaments would be a waste of time and money. There are those, however, who study every aspect of a particular fish, practice casting, and know their target so well, that they consistently pull in "the big ones" and win the tournaments. It seems the same thing happens in business. Certain companies seem to consistently "pull in the big ones" and gain market share. Why? They know that their target is like a fish! Fish are naturally unpredictable. They only strike at bait that is pulled toward them at the right time and in the right place. Sounds a lot like your potential clients doesn't it?

When promoting their business small business owners and entrepreneurs often forget basic marketing principles. When I go fishing, the first thing I do is look for a couple of lakes that have they type of fish that I want to catch. Once I find a couple of lakes that I want like to fish, I would seek out the locals to get the latest scuttlebutt on what my fish are doing. I would ask what's biting, where they're biting, and what time of day seems to work the best. I would also find out which type bait is hauling them in. Then, I would purchase a map of the lake so that I have a good idea of the "lay of the land."
Tip! The favorite crab for crab fishing is the blue crab, which is called Callinectes sapidus scientifically. And like its name, the blue crab comes in shades of blue, olive-green, and red.

This is a lot like exploring your target market. When I'm fishing for Bass, I get the intelligence report from the locals and a map for the lake. When you're fishing for clients, you need to find the right market, gather information and cast your line. Remember, you can't just cast it in any old place and hope that your "fish" will see the lure. Make sure you are casting into the correct places to find your customers. Know where your target market hangs out so that they see your message. Bass hide out under logs, lily pads, etc. If I want to catch a Bass, I throw my lure where the Bass are located. Apply the same concept to your target market. Cast in the correct location, you will save yourself time and money and avoid the unnecessary "snags" that many marketing campaigns run into.
Tip! Some fishing lodges advertise a certain amount for a few days by the lake. It is advisable to ask if there are any hidden charges.

When you market, you need to know what type of customer you are looking for, where they are, and what will attract them to your business. By focusing your efforts on reaching a defined target with a specific message, you will pull in many more "fish" than if you simply float to the middle of the lake and start throwing lines into the water.

If you know your target market you will be able to create a strategy for pulling some of them into your boat! Defining your target market is just one of the strategies Starmaker Marketing addresses during the Marketing Quotient process.

Success in fishing is learned, but with a plan and some perseverance you can start catching the "big ones" too. It's the same with your clients. If you plan to go crab fishing onshore, then the best time is when the tide is rising. For onshore crab fishing, you'll need a dip net, long string and some type of bait, like eel, chicken necks, or small fish.

Preston Odenbrett "Master Caster" Starmaker Marketing Web: www.starmakermarketing.com E-mail:preston@starmakermarketing.com

Preston Odenbrett Starmaker Marketing web:http://www.starmakermarketing.com phone:651-208-0126 e-mail:preston@starmakermarketing.com "Helping you ‘catch' business using smart strategic-driven marketing"

Go Fishing This Weekend!

OK, so you've figured out where your best clients have come from and where your Ideal Clients can be found in large numbers, and inexpensively. It's time to create a marketing plan that has you focusing on "fishing where the fish are." The more focus you have, the better the results.

When coaching clients to do this in private sessions, I ask them to draw a large circle on a blank sheet of paper, and draw 4 lines to create a pie with 8 slices.

Then I ask them to fill out each slice of the pie with what they're currently doing to attract clients (only the things that really work) and then fill in the rest of the marketing pie with marketing tools we've agreed will PULL their clients in. This comes from the list of where their Ideal Clients congregate, remember?
So, the list could look like this:

Network where they network

Join associations that allow you to rub elbows with them

Write articles for the publications they read

Create a Signature Talk for a workshop/seminar they attend

List your events in publications they read

Set up referral partnerships with people they do business with on a regular basis

Get booked as a speaker for organizations they belong to

Write articles for websites they visit often or rely upon

Write an e-zine they would be interested in reading

Give free (or paid) teleseminars they would dial into

Avoid marketing where your ideal clients are NOT spending time, as you will attract people who DON'T fit that profile.
Tip! Check your line just above the lure frequently when fishing crankbaits around rocks, gravel, stumps, and other hard obstructions. They can quickly fray your line.

Know that although you DO want a multi-pronged marketing approach (so that you don't ever put all your eggs in one basket), you want to take it slow and not try to put into place ALL the pieces of the pie at the same time. You'd overwhelm yourself and exhaust yourself completely, and exhaustion is not very Client Attractive.

So the idea is to start putting a couple of "slices" of the pie in place, to make them run like a well-oiled machine and THEN move on to adding another slice, one at a time.
Tip! Dress for the occasion. If you're ice fishing, don't forget thermal underwear and insulated footgear.

Your Assignment:

Spend some time thinking about all the different avenues for reaching you target audience with your compelling marketing message and plot it out on a marketing pie. Then start putting one piece of the pie in place, one after the other, until your Marketing Pie is in full swing and always working to help you attract clients. No more ad hoc marketing, with no results.

OK, but what if you haven't worked out what your compelling marketing message is yet?
